January 8, 2007 -- North Seymour Island and Bartolome Land Trip

And the adventure continues...

Today we have 2 morning dives at the same location and a land trip to Bartolome. First the dive trip...

Dive 1

Site Name: North Seymour
Max Depth: 100ft
Max Dive time: 60 minutes
Water Temp: 75.5

Details: Ok, so the dive ended up being a 51 minute dive with a max depth of 68ft. The current wasn´t too bad, but i could tell i was still overweighted, but staying here... on this dive so it was pretty good all in all... As we entered the water from the zodiac, there really was no time to signal we were ok, we just dumped down to the rocks below. Right at entry i managed to spot 2 white-tip sharks. There were tons of interesting starfish and other fishes in the area. The sealions were also all around us, playing with us and just checking us out. during part of the dive, mark spotted a group of white tip sharks hanging out in the rocks, it looked like only 3, ,but in reality there were several hiding behing them, i think there were about 5 or 6. Looks like i really didn´t do a good job of logging this dive with details because that´s all i have. Once I look at my photo´s i´ll have a better idea of what i saw and will edit this postint with names of some of the fishes.

Dive 2

Site Name: North Seymour
Max Depth: 100ft
Max Dive time: 60 minutes
Water Temp: 75.5

Details: well, we´re back at the same location, and in the end it wasn´t much different than the first. I ended up doing a 55 minute dive with a max depth of 74ft. Yeah, went a bit deeper, but gave us a chance to check out the sandy bottom... Here we found again white tip sharks that just swam around us without a care in the world, and at the bottom we found garden eels. We did find turtles swimming around and again, similar fish as before...

One note that people should realize, the diving in galapagos is very different that the carribean. there isn´t much color unless the sun is shining. and most of is is lava rocks and minimal coral, at least in these locations. but still a very enjoyable dive. it´s a new experience and a new entry in my log book...

Land Excurion:

Today, after our diving, we had one of 3 land excurions. This excusion was defined as a walk up a volcano, only 300+ stairs... UMMM YEAH RIGHT!!!! Remember, my clumbsiness and falling at Mitad del Mundo, now those stairs were a fun time.. but in the end, when we got on top it was spectacular. Before going up the volcano, we had the chance to spot the the penguins that live on this island. They were so tiny and cute...

Then the fun began, going up those wonderful stairs... A joy in itself. but in the end, we managed to catch the sunset over the other volcanos... what a site to see...

And tomorrow it´s off to Wolf and Darwin Island.... a 12 hour boat ride... thanks god it´s with the current...
